セントパトリックとは？
* セントパトリックは、アイルランドの守護聖人です。
432年、司教としてキリスト教布教のためアイルランドに送られたセントパトリックは、461年に亡くなるまでアイルランド中を旅しながらキリスト教を広め、各地に修道院・学校・教会を建てたといわれています。
そんなセントパトリックを記念してアイルランドでは、彼の命日である3月17日を「セントパトリックデー」という祝日にしています。

文化に関心があってお祭り好きな人ならだれでも参加して楽しむ事のできる日です。
*日本では東京・表参道のパレードが有名ですが、2004年、みなとみらい線が開通しさらに便利になった
国際都市横浜・元町において第１回セントパトリックデーパレード横浜元町が開催されました。元町と言えば、おしゃれな街で有名。世界中で開催されるセントパトリックデーパレードを祝うには、ぴったりな場所です。
*セントパトリックとは4世紀末～5世紀初頭に実在した司教で、アイルランドにおけるキリスト教普及に力を
尽くした人物です。セントパトリックにまつわる神話は数多くありますが、もっともよく知られているのは
アイルランドから蛇を駆逐したというもの。セントパトリックのおかげで今でもアイルランドに野生の蛇は
いないのです。
*セントパトリックデーはアイルランドの宗教的な祝日ですので教会に礼拝に行くことも行事の一つですが、
現在ではアイルランド国民だけでなく、世界中すべての人々が飲み歌い踊り、アイルランドの豊かな文化や伝統に祝杯をあげ、共に祝う日となっています。
*アイルランドは美しく緑多い風景から「エメラルド色の島」と呼ばれています。ですからアイルランドの
シンボルカラーといえば「緑」。アイルランドのお祭り、セントパトリックデーの日は伝統的に「緑」の服を
